A couple of months before Operation Cast Lead began in late 2008, the Hamas Representative Fathi Hammad was already preaching…
“For the Palestinian people death has become an industry, at which women excel and so do all people on this land: the elderly excel, the Jihad fighters excel, and the children excel.
Accordingly [Palestinians] created a human shield of women, children, the elderly and the Jihad fighters against the Zionist bombing machine, as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: ‘We desire death as you desire life.‘”

Hamas benefits from using its own citizens as human shields. How? When the IDF refrains from firing into densely populated areas, the terror organization becomes less vulnerable by default. Most of Hamas’ military infrastructure is purposely placed in the middle of Gaza City and scattered throughout crowded refugee camps, further putting civilians in the direct line of fire.
During Operation Cast Lead, Hamas deliberately put its civilians in the face of danger. Radical Islamic militants were abusing their own civilians by firing rockets from within schools, mosques and hospitals.
Women and children, victims of the Hamas human shield tactics, usually ignore warning signals to evacuate buildings prior to an IDF strike. The victims remain in the house with Hamas members, knowing ahead of time that the IDF will not target civilians.
Many innocent bystanders are killed as a result of Hamas’ abuse of its own civilians. Instead of keeping its citizens out of harm’s way, Hamas encourages and even forces its population to join the violent resistance against Israel.
