The Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Benny Gantz, departed this morning (Sunday) for his first official work visit to China. This visit follows an invitation extended to Lt. Gen. Gantz by the Chief of the Chinese General Staff, General Chen Bindnge, who visited Israel last August, as a guest of Lt. Gen. Gantz.
During the course of the visit, the Chief of the General Staff and his counterpart will conduct a series of work meetings, as well as meetings with other Chinese security and military officials. They will discuss current security and strategic challenges, the regional security status in the Middle East and military cooperation.
The Chief of the General Staff will land in Beijing, where he will be received by a Chinese Ministry of Defense honor guard. Later on, Lt. Gen. Gantz will participate in an official dinner hosted by Gen. Bindnge and other Chinese generals. He will also observe a fire drill in Nanjing and tour the Jewish museum in Shanghai.
During his absence, Lt. Gen. Gantz will be replaced by his deputy, Major General Yair Naveh.
