On the morning of January 21, 2015, a Palestinian terrorist injured 12 people in a terror attack in Tel Aviv. This assault follows a wave of violence against Israeli citizens in recent months. Hamas and other Palestinians took advantage of the event to praise the attack and encourage violence against Israelis.
The terrorist – a Palestinian man from Tulkarem – stabbed several passengers on a bus in central Tel Aviv. Twelve people were injured in the attack, three severely.
The terrorist organization Hamas is quick to condemn terrorism when it targets the international community – such as the attack at the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris – but is quick to celebrate attacks that target Israeli civilians. This stabbing was no exception and Hamas officials did not hesitate to laud the attack.
Hamas Leaders Applaud Tel Aviv Attack
Izzat Risheq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, published a message on his Twitter account moments after the attack. “The stabbing attack against Zionists in Tel Aviv is a brave and heroic act,” he tweeted. “This is a natural response to the occupation and terrorist crimes against the Palestinian people.”

Similarly, Dr. Mahmoud al-Zahar, a prominent member of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, published the following message on his Facebook account a few hours after the attack: “God bless the hands that hunt and kill Zionists everywhere.”
The Hamas-supported news agency Shehab published a release on their social media accounts in which they reported that the political party Palestinian Freedom Movement cheered the attack, calling it, “an effective model against the crimes of the occupation,” and encouraged the intensification of similar acts.
Besides the official releases praising the attack, the Palestinian public also circulated various cartoons, making a joke out of the terror attack.
This drawing of a bloody knife was circulated and shared on Facebook. The image is titled “Good Morning” and depicts an Israeli flag covered in blood.
The above image shows the alleged terrorists hailing the stabbing of a number of civilians and a sign that reads, “The Occupied City of Tel Aviv.”
A History of Praise of Violence
This is not the first instance in which the Palestinian population has celebrated attacks directed against Israeli civilians. Palestinians voiced their support for the terrorists who kidnapped three young Israelis in Judea and Samaria in June, 2014.
Shortly after the kidnapping, terrorist organizations praised the attack and urged Palestinians in Judea and Samaria to hamper the IDF’s efforts to locate the boys. Senior Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad officials even called for the kidnapping of more Israelis, with the insidious intention of trading them for convicted terrorists.
