The new “Horizon 10” observation satellite is radar based, and has advanced capabilities for photography during daylight, at night and in any weather conditions. The satellite was carried into space by a Shavit (“Comet”) launch vehicle from the center of the country.
The Defense Ministry and Israeli Aircraft Industries (AIA) successfully launched an observation satellite into orbit on Wednesday night (09/04/2014).
“Horizon 10” is a radar-based observation satellite, with advanced photography capabilities during daylight, at night and in any weather conditions. The launch was jointly carried out by IAI and the Defense Ministry’s Space Administration, which is a part of the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure.
The “Horizon 10” has entered orbit and begun to transmit data to the control center. The satellite underwent a series of tests, verifying that key functions are working correctly. Engineers from the IAI and the Defense Ministry will continue to carry out tests on the satellite until it is fully operational.
