A short while ago, a number of rockets hit the Western Galilee. No casualties were reported. The IDF responded by targeting the origins of the fire.

On August 2010 Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) fired at IDF soldiers working inside Israeli territory. Despite having coordinated with the LAF via UNIFIL (UN peacekeeping force), Lebanese soldiers fired at and killed Lt. Col. (res.) Dov Hariri, 45, and the serious wounding of another IDF soldier, Capt. Ezra Lakia. During 2009, 11 incidents of additional terrorist activity were reported in the region.

How Israeli-Palestinian Cooperation Saved the Life of Abdullah Ramal

Suffering from chronic kidney disease, Abdullah Ramal crossed into Israel to undergo a life-saving surgery back in September. The five-year-old Palestinian underwent a kidney transplant at Beilinson Hospital.

The donor? His father. The funder? The Civil Administration of Judea and Samaria, which donated NIS 380,000 to fully cover Ramal’s surgery and medicine.

Ramal’s surgery also reflected a recent trend: Increased security and stability in Judea and Samaria have reinforced coordination between the Civil Administration and Palestinian people. In 2011, the Civil Administration assisted five Palestinian families, donating NIS 2.5 million for organ transplants.

In Response to Rocket Fire, IAF Targets Two Terror Activity Sites in Gaza Strip

In response to rockets fired at Israel over the weekend, IAF aircraft targeted a terror activity site in the southern Gaza Strip, and an additional one in the central Gaza Strip, overnight. Direct hits were confirmed.

The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm the State of Israel and IDF soldiers, and will continue to operate against anyone who uses terror against the State of Israel. The Hamas terror organization is solely responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip.

Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces to Visit Israel

The Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. André Blattman, arrived in Israel today (Saturday) as a guest of the Chief of General Staff of the IDF, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz.

During the visit, Lt. Gen. Blattman will meet with his counterpart, Lt. Gen. Gantz, as well as the Minister of Defense, Mr. Ehud Barak. In addition, he will receive a number of briefings from IDF officers, focusing on mutual issues faced by both armies, with a particular emphasis on reserve service.

Lt. Gen. Blattman will visit the Southern Command, tour a UAV squadron, and see an “Arrow” ballistic missile defense battery. He will also tour Jerusalem and visit the “Yad Vashem” Holocaust History Museum.

This is Lt. Gen. Blattman’s first visit to Israel. Coming one year after the visit of the Swiss Minister of Defense, this visit reflects the strong existing security relations between the Israeli and Swiss Defense establishments.

Suspects Accused of Murdering the Palmer Family Will be Read Their Indictments

On Sunday, November 27th 2011, the four suspects accused of murdering the father and son of the Palmer family will be read their indictments. This will take place at the Ofer Military Base, near Giv’at Ze’ev, at approximately 9:00 AM.

The four aforementioned individuals are suspected of hurling rocks at the vehicle of Asher Palmer traveling near Hebron, leading to his and his eight month old son’s death on Friday, September 23rd 2011.

The verdict of Ahmed Awad’s trial is expected to be handed down at 14:30 on Monday, November 28th 2011 at the Samaria Military Court, in the Salem Military Base. Ahmed Awad is accused of murdering five members of the Fogel family in cold blood, assisted by his cousin, on March 12th 2011.

Infiltration Attempt Thwarted on Egyptian Border

Earlier this evening, while patrolling on the Israeli-Egyptian border, IDF soldiers identified a group of armed suspects that infiltrated into Israel during a smuggling attempt.
 
IDF soldiers attempted to apprehend the suspects, following their refusal to stop and adhere to the soldier’s calls, the soldiers fired at lower body mass, confirming a hit. The suspects returned fire.

No IDF soldiers were harmed and no damage was caused in this incident.

11th IDF Chief of Staff, Rafael Eitan: Greatest Achievements

Rafael Eitan, born on 1929, was the 11th IDF Chief of Staff. Eitan served his country as a military commander for over 38 years and is considered one of the most courageous officers of all times. Even before appointed Chief of Staff, Eitan had a great influence on the army and led it to many achievements. These are some of his career’s greatest achievements:

IDF’s first operational parachute drop – In 1956, as part of the Sinai Campaign that was launched in order to provide peace and security to the citizens of Israel, Eitan, as commander of the 890 Paratroopers battalion, led the battalion’s historic jump deep in the Sinai Peninsula. List of Latest Five Humanitarian Missions

The Coordinator of Government Operations in Judea, Samaria and Gaza District Unit coordinates activities of government bureaus, the IDF, and security establishments vis-a-vis the Palestinians. This is done through the application of government policies pertaining to various aspects of civilian life, including humanitarian issues, infrastructure projects, and economical projects. The following actions are part of the many activities and actions taken by COGAT in its efforts to improve the lives of the civilian population that are not involved in terrorism.

The Field Intelligence Unit You’ve Never Heard of

Female combat soldiers of the field intelligence company “Nachshol” are stationed along the southern Israeli border. Due to the increased tension in the area, a unique exercise was conducted in the beginning of November, practicing clashes with terrorists, storming at targets, and high-level camouflage, while confronted with mock explosives simulating real bombs.
