Updating: Hamas Bombs Southern Israel

More than 45 mortars and rockets were fired over the past three days from the Gaza Strip at southern Israeli communities including Ashdod (population of over 200,000), Ashkelon (population of 113,000), Gan Yavne (population of 19,000) and Be’er Sheva (population of 195,000).

The attacks killed Moshe Ami, father of four, who died of shrapnel wounds. They also caused light to moderate injuries to at least three people and damaged several buildings, including a school.

IAF Targets Terrorist Squad Moments After Rocket Fire

A short while ago, a terrorist squad that fired a Qassam rocket at Israel from the southern Gaza Strip was targeted shortly after by an IAF aircraft. A hit was confirmed.

Infographic: Gaza Strip Weekly Crossing Report for October 7th to 13th

The Israeli Government, together with the IDF, coordinates the delivery of a variety of humanitarian aid and development assistance to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip on a daily basis. This report details the humanitarian measures taken for the week of  October 7th-13th, 2011, as well as general transfers of goods and services to the Gaza Strip.

During this period, a total of 1,285 truckloads crossed over from Israel, carrying 34,657 tons of goods, medicine and development assistance for Gaza’s civilian population. 365 truckloads of construction aggregates were transferred into the Strip during this period.

In addition, 831 tons of cooking gas were transferred into Gaza while 276 patients and accompanying individuals exited Gaza for medical treatment and 126 international organization staff members entered the Strip.

34 truckloads of hygiene products were transferred into the Gaza Strip last week as well as 64 truckload of electrical Products.

Salam Aleykum Facebook

Today, the Israel Defense Forces launched its official Arabic Facebook page. In addition to establishing a presence on Twitter and YouTube, the IDF will now share information in Arabic on Facebook regarding its activities in Israel, Judea and Samaria and Gaza.

The effort was spearheaded by Major Avichai Adarai, an officer in the Arabic press department of the IDF Spokesperson Unit.

In Response to Heavy Rocket Fire, IAF Targets Several Terror Centers in the Gaza Strip

More than 20 mortars and rockets were fired today from the Gaza Strip at Israeli communities including Ashdod (population of over 200,000), Ashkelon (population of 113,000), Gan Yavne (population of 19,000) and the Eshkol Regional Council, causing light to moderate injuries to at least three people and damaging several buildings, including a school.

IAF aircraft targeted six terror activity sites in the Gaza Strip. Three rocket launching sites and one terror tunnel were targeted in the northern Gaza Strip, and in the southern Gaza Strip two terror activity sites were targeted. Secondary explosions were observed in certain sites. Hits were confirmed.

The targeting of the sites is in direct response to the barrage of rockets that hit Israel over the past day.

The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz held a situation assessment in response to the renewed rocket fire from Gaza. The assessment was held with the operational general staff including representatives from the Intelligence Corps, the Southern Command, the Home Front Command, the IAF and the Operations Directorate.

A short while ago in a joint IDF-ISA activity, an IAF aircraft targeted a terrorist squad in the southern Gaza Strip that was preparing to launch long-range rockets. The aforementioned squad is responsible for the firing of the Grad rocket towards southern Israel this past Wednesday.

A hit was identified and the launching attempt was thwarted.
