The Gaza Strip security fence has been a source and site for various terror attacks launched by the Hamas terror organization as well as other smaller militant groups. The IDF holds Hamas as responsible for all terror attacks emanating from the Gaza Strip.

The attacks target both IDF soldiers (planting explosive devices, anti-tank missiles,  shooting towards IDF forces) and civilians residing inside Israeli territory (firing rockets and missiles).

Examples of terror activities near the security fence:

  • 13.04.09 – In the morning hours, an unmanned fishing boat exploded near an IDF Navy boat which was engaged in routine activity in the area. No casualties or damage were caused.
  • 08.06.09 – IDF forces thwarted an attempted attack under the cover of fog. Ten terrorists riding horses and booby-trapped trucks approached the fence. IDF forces spotted the group and commenced to fire at them. A later scan of the area revealed approximately 40 planted land mines and IEDs.
  • 01.02.10 – Civilians at the beach of Ashkelon recognized a suspicious object which was later determined to be an explosive device. At the same day, barrels loaded with explosives were found at the Ashdod beach. The barrels were detonated in a controlled manner.
  • 25.05.10 – A farming cart loaded with explosives was sent towards Israeli territory by a Palestinian child wearing civilian clothes. The cart exploded near the fence in the northern Gaza Strip.
  • 28.06.10 – During a seemingly non-violent civilian protest, an explosive device was planted near the security fence by two of the protesters.
  • 19.01.11 – Shots were fired at an IDF force from a farmer’s cart near the security fence. No casualties or damage were caused.

In March 2010, one IDF soldier and one IDF officer were killed in an exchange of fire with terrorists placing explosives along the Southern Gaza Strip security fence.

The most recent attempt to plant an IED was detonated at IDF soldiers and was followed by the firing of a mortar shell at the force, resulting in no injuries. Two mortar shells were additionally fired at Israeli territory. The IDF force returned fire, resulting in a direct hit.

Israeli Air Force Targets Terror Activity Sites in the Gaza Strip

During the weekend, IAF aircraft targeted several terror activity sites in the Gaza Strip as a response to the barrage of rocket fire at the Israeli home front.

On Friday night, IAF aircraft targeted a number of sites in the central Gaza Strip.

Earlier today, IAF aircraft targeted a terror tunnel and two terror activity sites in the southern Gaza Strip.

The terror tunnel was intended to be used by terrorists to infiltrate into Israel and to carry out terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers.

Since the beginning of 2011, over 50 Qassam rockets, Mortar shells and Grad missiles have been fired at Israel’s southern communities and cities. Since Wednesday, four rockets hit Be’er Sheva and the Sdot Negev Regional Council.

The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli civilians or IDF soldiers, and will continue to respond harshly to terror. The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and for any terrorist activity emanating from it.

Rioters in Bil’in Today Hurl Rocks, Damage Security Fence

During a violent riot today in Bil’in, rioters continued to hurl rocks at security forces and damage the security fence. Approximately 70 rioters participated. In addition, another violent riot occurred simultaneously in Hebron in which four Border Policemen were injured and one Border Policewoman was lightly injured after being assaulted by a female rioter. The rioter was subsequently arrested.

Protesters are free to partake in non-violent demonstrations and express their opinions as they wish. However when violence is used against people and property, security forces are forced to respond with riot dispersal means. Last year alone, 47 IDF soldiers and Border Policemen were injured by rock hurling during these protests, many requiring hospital treatment.

Every Friday, violent and illegal riots take place in the West Bank villages of Bil’in and Ni’lin protesting the path of the security fence. The Israeli High Court ruled that the course of the fence should be altered, and currently work is underway for the new fence. When the new security fence is completed, the one adjacent to Bil’in will be removed. Despite this, demonstrators continue to riot. While some demonstrators are peaceful, many use violence, hurling rocks or firebombs at security forces (IDF soldiers and Border Policemen), resulting in hundreds of injuries. Security forces respond with riot dispersal means, including tear gas, to disperse the violent gatherings.

IDF-ISA Target Terror Operatives in the Southern Gaza Strip

In a joint IDF-ISA activity, IAF aircraft targeted terror operatives in the Southern Gaza Strip a short while ago.

Direct hits were confirmed.

IAF Targets Terror Sites in the Gaza Strip in Response to Rocket Fire

In response to rocket fire, overnight the IAF targeted several sites of terror during an extensive operation in the Gaza Strip. Hits were confirmed.

These terror sites were targeted in response to yesterday’s firing of rockets at the city of Be’er Sheva and other Western Negev communities.

The IDF will respond harshly  to any attempt to use terror against the State of Israel, and will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli citizens or IDF soldiers. The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and for any terrorist activity emanating from it.

IAF Targets Rocket-Launching Terrorist Squad in Gaza

In response to rocket fire, the Israeli Air Force targeted a terrorist squad in the Northern Gaza Strip a short while ago. The target was a site from which rockets were fired towards the Israeli city of Be’er Sheva earlier tonight. A direct hit was confirmed.

Hamas Loaded Rocket Launchers

7 rockets have been fired at Israel in this day alone, five of which landed in the Sdot Negev Regional Council and an additional two in Be’er Sheva a short while ago. There were no casualties, but damage was sustained. 58 rockets have been launched from Gaza into Israeli territory since the beginning of 2011.

Explosive Devices Detonated and Mortars Fired from the Gaza Strip

Earlier today, an explosive device was detonated at an IDF force that was performing a routine activity near the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip. Shortly afterwards, a mortar shell was fired at the force and two additional mortar shells were fired into Israeli territory, landing in the Sdot Negev Regional Council. Subsequently, the force identified a number of militants in the same area and returned fire in their direction. A direct hit was confirmed.

In the past two months, over 12 explosive devices were laid along the security fence and were detonated at IDF forces. Two explosive devices were uncovered by an IDF force yesterday in the southern Gaza Strip and detonated in a controlled manner.

The terrorist organizations are constantly operating against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and for any terrorist activity emanating from it.

Two IEDs Discovered Near Gaza Security Fence

An IDF force uncovered two IEDs (improvised explosive devices) planted near the security fence in the southern part of the Gaza Strip this morning. The IEDs were detonated in a controlled manner by IDF sappers.

This event constitutes further evidence of attempts by Gaza Strip terror organizations to infiltrate the area adjacent to the security fence on a daily basis in order to carry out attacks meant to harm IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians. The IDF views the terror organization Hamas as exclusively responsible for all terror activity emanating for the Gaza Strip.

Violent Riots in the West Bank Village of Bil’in

The following photos, taken moments ago, show violent rioters in the West Bank town of Bil’in. After rioters caused damage to the security fence and hurled rocks at security forces, the security forces responded with dispersal means intended to disperse the violent gathering. One Border Policeman was injured by rocks hurled at him by rioters, and was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.

Israeli security forces untangle a flag that had been tied to the gate by rioters while having rioters continue to hurl rocks at them.

Approximately 300 rioters participated in the riot in Bil’in today.

A video of the riot also shows the violent nature of these weekly riots. The Deputy Commander of the Binyamin Regional Brigade explains that his soldiers respond only when confronted with violence and it can be subsequently seen in the video that IDF soldiers and Border Policemen do not react to harsh but non-violent forms of expression.
