The IDF medical and rescue team in Port-au-Prince rescued a Haitian government worker on Saturday afternoon, who was trapped in the ruined customs office in the city. The man was trapped for 90 hours, before being evacuated in a moderate manner to the IDF field hospital. The evacuation lasted about 8 hours, and is the first rescue by IDF forces of a live survivor.
The IDF field hospital in Port-au-Prince was established in 8 hours on Saturday, and has treated more than 100 survivor. 30% of the injured in the hospital are defined severe, 50% are defined moderately injured and the rest are defined lightly injured. More than half of the injured are beneath the age of 16. The majority of injuries are limb injuries and bone fractures while 10 life saving surgeries were preformed.
